Acting was always in Mouni Roy's genes as her grandfather Shekhar Chandra Roy was a very well-known theatre artist and her mother Mukti Roy was also a well-known theatre artist.Her father Anil Roy was an office superintendent of the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad.Mouni is a trained Kathak dancer and has shown her dancing talent in "Zara Nach Ke Dikha" and "Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa".She did her schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya in Baburhat, Cooch Behar, West Bengal and then she went to New Delhi and took admission in mass communication at Jamia Milia Islamia at her parent's insistence but left the course midway to try her luck in the bollywood.Mouni Roy got married to her Dubai-based banker boyfriend Suraj Nambiar on January 27, 2022.

The marriage was previously planned to be held in Dubai but the couple changed plans and have decided to marry in india.In September 2021, television actor Amit Tandon has slammed actor Mouni Roy, alleging that she used his wife Ruby Tandon.
